Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma will reply to the Election Commission notice today. The EC had asked to explain why action should not be taken against him for violating the model code of conduct in Uttar Pradesh while campaigning. On February 15th Verma told a rally in Farrukhabad that reservation for minorities would be increased and dared the Election Commission to take action against him. He was the second Congress minister to make such remarks. Last week, Law Minister Salman Khurshid apologized to the Election commission after the EC issued him a similar notice. The commission had also sought the President's intervention in the case.
