India News: Beni Prasad Verma targets Congress

India News: Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma has alleged that certain Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh enjoy a cosy relationship with the Samajwadi Party at the expense of their party, turning his ire on his colleagues after repeatedly spewing venom against his former leader and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Verma, who moved from the SP to the Congress and is considered close to the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, added to his string of controversial statements on Tuesday, claiming that a few Congress leaders had worked to defeat the party's candidates in the 2012 assembly polls. Gandhi will ensure that this is not repeated in the 2014 elections, he said, adding that the Congress can join hands with the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party to defeat the Samajwadi Party in a few critical seats.
