India News: Rescue operations on in Uttarakhand
  • 5 years ago
India News: Even as relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit Uttarakhand picked up after restoring communication channel and pressing over a dozen helicopter in the far-flung areas on Tuesday, it may take another two to three days to trace and evacuate all the tourists and pilgrims who have been stranded there for the last 48 hours.

Army and paramilitary forces including ITBP and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel could manage to communicate with each other through wireless communication system and airlift many stranded people with the help of Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter during the day. Though the forces pitched in for rescue operations right from the day one, absence of contingency plan on the ground in both Uttarakhand delayed the process.
