Is Harsher Punishment Really the Answer?

Unprecedented protests have been seen nationwide today over the delhi gang rape case. Even the security at Rashtrapati Bhavan has been breached. What in your view should be done to respond to the calls for justice & increased safety for women to meet the expectations of people who've taken to the streets?
