Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to ask U.S. President Donald Trump to bring up the issue of North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals during his summit with Kim Jong-un in Hanoi.
According to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper on Tuesday,... Abe addressed the issue while speaking in parliament.
He said.... he make the request when he speaks to Trump over the phone before the Vietnam summit.
Japan claims that the North kidnapped at least 17 of its citizens in the 1970s and 80s.
The abductions have been a major issue for the current Japanese government.
However, Abe has been unsuccessful in setting up a meeting with the North Korean leader to resolve the issue.
