Chamar Studio that was born last year on Ravidas Jayanti looks at reutilising the skills of the Chamar community who by profession are leather makers. The Chamar brand employs leather workers from the community to produce handmade bags and other accessories in different materials, including leather, cotton, latex and recycled materials. The Chamar Project started by artist and founder Sudhir Rajbhar is more focused on the art and craft but as the Chamars come from the backward classes, his idea is to break such boundaries and reinvent their identity to bring respect and acknowledgement to the community's skill set and work.
