German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government has ruled out an outright ban targeting Chinese equipment supplier Huawei technologies co as the country moves towards building its ultra-fast fifth-generation networks. While they continue to work towards a final decision, the ministers concluded that singling out Huawei from a list of suppliers was not legally viable. Merkel also said recently that the German consumers need to be sure their data is safe and won’t be accessed by Chinese authorities. Meanwhile, the economy minister has said Berlin will use government funds to prevent Chinese companies from investing in companies considered strategic by the government.
