Gargamuni - Lord Krishna’s naming ceremony | Krishna Story | Artha

We all know that Lord Krishna was everyone's favorite as he captivated everybody in Vrindavan with his mischievous pastimes. Today, we're going to give you details of the naming ceremony of Lord Krishna, so watch this video to know how he was adored.

1 Gargamuni or Gargacharya was the son of Rishi Bharadwaja. He was the family priest of the Yadu dynasty who belonged to the clan of Brahma-Kshatriyas (Brahmin warriors).
2 He had acquired knowledge with great austerity and thus was well-versed in the Vedas and Puranas.
3 He was the author of Garga Samhita - an astrological treatise written in Sanskrit language.
4 Vasudeva requested him to name his child, thus Gargamuni paid a visit to Nanda Maharaja’s house to perform Jagopavit Sanskar (one of sixteen Vedic Sanskars).
5 Rishi Garga was sure that Kansa was trying to hunt down Devaki’s eighth son and would suspect the Nanda family if the naming ceremony was performed with great grandeur.
6 Hence, the ritualistic bathing ceremony of Balarama and Krishna was performed at the palace but the actual naming ceremony of Krishna and Balarama was celebrated without anyone's knowledge.
7 Gargamuni had named the son of Rohini as Baladeva for his immense strength and Rama who increases transcendental bliss of others. He also called him Sankarsana that stands for the one who was drawn.
8 While naming the son of Yashoda Gargamuni was really confused because he will be known by many names for his various activities and qualities.
9 He told Nanda Maharaj that his son had previously appeared in many colors, but now has assumed the color black. He then named him Krishna (Krsna) for his darker complexion.
