In Hindu Dharma, Khatu Shyamji is believed to be the other name of Babarika that was given to him by Lord Krishna.

This appearance is particularly honored with a true piety in the Rajasthani and Haryanvi speaking population.

Also called Shyam Baba or Khatu Naresh, Khatu Shyamji is said to have made a great sacrifice in the way of religion.

This heroic devotee of Lord Krishna had cut off his head and presented it to his lord as a charity.

As per one of the legends of the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna had drowned Barbarika's head in the Rupawati river after the great battle.

Thereafter, he granted Barbarika the boon to be remembered for his fearless devotion and will be worshiped as Shyam (which is one of Lord Krishna’s popular names).

There are many temples dedicated to Khatu Shyamji which are popularly found in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.

However, the most famous temple is Khatushyam Temple that is located in the town of Khatu. It receives greater importance due to the faith which devotees have in the different legends associated with it.

In another temple located in Gujarat, he is called Lord Baliya. Here followers bring their newly born children to have blessings of Khatushyam.
