India, Thailand, and China suffer from fine dust pollution

And this fine dust is not only South Korea's problem... because fine dust pollution is expected to spike in other parts of Asia this winter as well.
Hong Yoo tells us more.
Fine dust is not just a problem for South Korea but for other countries in Asia as well.
Thailand, India and China are all struggling with fine dust that has blanketed major cities and will remain a problem for the rest of the winter.

January is the dry season in these regions, and polluted air is building up in the atmosphere without any precipitation nor wind to thin it out.

So these countries are coming up with their own ways to deal with the problem.

The Thai capital fired a water cannon into the air and hosed down streets on Monday as Bangkok saw high levels of hazardous PM 2.5 fine dust particles.

"Spraying the water droplets will help the particles join together and cause them to drop to the ground, just like rain that helps clean the smog and pollution."

The government also handed out masks to protect people from the air pollution.

Beijing, with over 500 micrograms of fine dust per cubic meter, prohibited fireworks as these are seen as a contributor to the pollution.

And one of the world's most polluted cities, New Delhi, India, had a "hazardous" air quality level last Friday. To try to deal with it, the city stopped all construction and had water trucks spraying the streets.
