PM Narendra Modi wins Economic Quota, now its Rajya Sabha to face the bill
  • 5 years ago
The Lok Sabha passed the constitutional amendment bill to provide 10 percent reservation to the economically backward sections, the first ever rewriting India's history. After exhaustive debates that went on for 5 hours and witnessed at least 30 MPs discuss the issue, 323 Lok Sabha members voted in support of the bill and only three voted against it, indicating that almost all parties were in favour of the proposed legislation. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi were present when the voting took place. The bill will now be tabled in Rajya Sabha where proceedings have been extended by a day. Prime Minister Modi thanked all the MPs for supporting the bill, who despite the backing, were vocal in criticising the bills timing.
