Imjingak's Peace Bell rings hope for further improvement in inter-Korean relations(3)

Time to check in once again with our Kan Hyeong-woo, standing by at another New Year's celebration at the Imjingak Pavilion.

Quite a change from downtown Seoul, he's just a few kilometers from North Korea.
Hyeong-woo, happy new year to you Looks like there's a lot going on over there.

Happy new year to you, too And yes, they started ringing the bell at midnight and now everybody's enjoying the fireworks to mark the start of a new year.

I'm standing in front of the Imjingak Peace Bell... and behind me, it's really dark so it's hard to see anything beyond the Pavilion. But that's the Northern side, where North Koreans are probably celebrating too.

Although there's no way to say for sure what kind of celebrations are taking place over there tonight, South Korean visitors here seem to be enjoying the moment.

A lot of happy and hopeful faces here tonight.
Their LED headbands are shining, and I'm hearing a lot of wishes for a better year in 2019.

The Imjingak Resort is a symbol of hope for reunification for the two Koreas. As both Seoul and Pyeongyang continue to make progress towards better relations, this place could see even more visitors next year.

Despite the freezing cold, about ten-thousand people attended tonight's New Year's Eve festivities and I'm more than happy to have been a part of it.
Once again, happy new year to everyone Back to you guys.
