Comey: Innocent People Paying Price For Another Trump 'Lie' About Mexico Funding Border Wall
  • 5 years ago
James Comey on Sunday again slammed President Trump over the partial government shutdown.

Former FBI Director James Comey on Sunday slammed President Trump over the partial government shutdown.  "FBI families will spend Christmas without a paycheck," Comey tweeted. "This president promised Mexico would pay for the wall but innocent people are now paying the price for another lie. Our thoughts are with hardworking public servants and their families."  The partial government shutdown began early Saturday morning after lawmakers could not agree on a budget given the president's initial demand for $5 billion in border wall funding.
However, according to Bloomberg, the White House has agreed to lower that amount, as of Saturday, to "$2.5 billion for border security, including new fencing and $400 million for Trump immigration priorities."
The Democrats, meanwhile, have offered $1.3 billion for border security with no money allocated for a border wall with Mexico.  Trump tweeted on Saturday: "I am in the White House, working hard. News reports concerning the Shutdown and Syria are mostly FAKE. We are negotiating with the Democrats on desperately needed Border Security (Gangs, Drugs, Human Trafficking & more) but it could be a long stay."
