  • last month
Lawmakers unveiled a $1.2 trillion government funding package to avoid a government shutdown before the Friday deadline. The package needs to pass both the House and Senate by Friday. The package includes $19.6 billion for Customs and Border Protection, nearly $90 billion for the Department of Homeland Security to enhance resources, and funding for 41,500 detention beds. It excludes money for border wall construction. The bill increases Department of Defense funding by $26.8 billion to $824.3 billion. It also provides an additional 12,000 special immigrant visas for Afghan allies.
