Ruling Democratic Party agrees on need for electoral reform, hopes to reach consensus by January

The ruling Democratic Party of Korea has agreed on the need for electoral reform,.... and is vowing to come up with a negotiated plan agreed upon by all five main parties by next month.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting Wednesday, the party's secretary general Yun Ho-jung said they broadly agree to the minor opposition parties' proposal of a mixed-member proportional representation system.
It's a system where more seats will be allotted for each party based on the percentage of voters' support for each party.
He said the ruling party will work to reach a consensus with the other four main parties, with the aim of passing the revised bill during the February extraordinary session.
The move comes amid continuing protests from minor opposition parties over the issue, with the leaders of the centrist Bareunmirae Party and the leftist Justice Party on hunger strike for the past week.
