South Korean automakers Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have recorded accumulated sales of more than 20 million units in the 33 years since they first started selling vehicles in the U.S.
But the U.S. automarket does not seem too promising next year,... and the automakers plan to introduce more models to boost sales.
Yoon Jung-min reports.
South Korean auto giants Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have sold a combined 20 million units in the U.S. since they first entered the market.

According to an auto industry report on Monday, Hyundai Motor has recorded accumulated sales of more than 12 million units since it started selling vehicles in the U.S. in 1985,... while Kia Motors has sold nearly 8 million units since 1994.

The automakers have been steadily posting sales of over one million units a year in the U.S. since 2011.
The Hyundai Elantra has been the top-selling model with over three million total sales, followed by the Sonata and Santa Fe

The automakers have also been recognized in the U.S. for their quality. This year, Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis, Kia Motors and Hyundai Motor grabbed the top three spots in market researcher J.D. Power's U.S. Initial Quality Study.
The luxury brand Genesis also saw its G70 model named Car of the Year 2019 by car magazine Motor Trend.

However, Hyundai-Kia's sales this year fell 1-point-2 percent on-year due to intensifying competition and a lack of competitive sports utility vehicle models.
The automakers said bumpy roads are expected in 2019 due to a bearish U.S. auto market.
They added they will launch their SUV models in the U.S. next year to establish their foothold in the market.
