Fox News anchor Chris Wallace commented on how the mood at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush noticeably changed when President Trump arrived.
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace commented Wednesday on how the mood at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush noticeably changed when President Trump arrived. "I have to say I was struck when President Trump and Melania Trump came to the front row that it was as if a chill had descended on that front row," Wallace said. "You had seen a lot of chatty talk between the Clintons and the Obamas, the Carters. But when Donald Trump sat down, the greeting that he was given by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama was about as cool as it could have been," the anchor continued. "That was it, and at that point, they all stopped talking to each other," Wallace further noted. He went on to acknowledge that there was likely a lot of "ill will" in that front row and noted that the typical "president's club" decorum "doesn't seem to have been extended to President Trump." Incidents of that sort were avoided at the funeral of Senator John McCain by not inviting Trump. Cindy McCain, the widow of John McCain, explained the decision to the BBC, commenting: "Even though it was a very public funeral, we are still a family. For all of us, and for the sake of my own children, I didn't want any disruption."
