UN First Committee passes 3 resolutions urging North Korea's denuclearization
  • 5 years ago
The United Nations First Committee has passed three resolutions that call for North Korea's denuclearization on Thursday.
The resolution was motioned by Australia,... and it condemns North Korea's nuclear tests and calls for its complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.
It also demands the regime comply with UN Security Council resolutions and emphasizes the need for diplomatic efforts on the nuclear issue.
Two Japan-sponsored resolutions, urging the North's total elimination of nuclear arms and for a nuclear-free society, were also passed.
South Korea voted in favor of Australia's motion,... but abstained from Japan's, as they were not in line with Seoul's interests.
