Marking Hangeul Day in Korea,... President Moon Jae-in visited the Royal Tomb of King Sejong, becoming the first South Korean leader in 24 years... to pay tribute to the man who invented the Korean alphabet.
The president said the creation of the Korean language is a reflection of the King's love for the people,... as it was created with the goal of enabling the public to communicate easily.
Prior to the invention of Hangeul, only Chinese characters were used, mostly by educated elites, during the Joseon Dynasty.
President Moon urged experts in relevant fields to continue working to advance the nation's cultural heritage.
