A 10-year-old boy whose heart could be seen "pumping out of his chest" was found to have one of the fastest hearts rate in the world - three times over the normal rate. Football mad Jack Searle, aged ten, stunned officials when he walked into A&E with a recorded heart beat of 301 beats per minute, which doctors say should have killed him.

The normal resting heart rate for a child aged ten onward ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute, according to Medline Plus - online health information site.
