Shocking video footage of police officers firing shots during a mass protest in the Republic of Ingushetia, southern Russia. The moment was captured on October 4.

In the video the sound of gunshots is audible, with a crowd screaming straight afterwards. It is unclear whether the shots fired were rubber bullets or live ammunition.

In the background a woman screams "you can do anything you want, we're not leaving anywhere. You can shoot us and we'll die here."

The people stay where they are instead of dispersing.

According to the filmer, authorities were trying to scare people and make them leave. He also said that the internet connection in the area was stifled in order to prevent spread of news about the protest.

The protest began in the early morning. Activists are concerned that results of a vote regarding the borders of Chechnya and Ingushetia which saw the latter cede a significant portion of land to the former was faked.

Accordingly to Russian media, 20,000 people gathered together to express their dissatisfaction with the voting results. News platforms also claim that at the end of the protest, Ingushetian leader Yusur-bek Yuvsurov admitted in front of the crowd that the government faked the results.
