Major controversy has erupted over Mamata Banerjee's decision to gift Rs 28 Crore to Durga Puja Organisers and on the other hand not increase the renumeration to Imams. Influential clerics and scholars across the state are taking out a rally demanding hike in stipend to Imams and state funds for least 10,000 Madrasas across the state. A section of Muslim clerics have claimed that for the last 6 years, Imams are getting a stipend of only Rs 2, 500 per month.
