La Simplicité, Polka francaise, Op. 40 - Josef Strauss

  • hace 6 años
"Simplicity". Imbedded between the masterpieces "Perlen der Liebe" and "Wallonen Marsch", stands, simple and unabashed, as the title of the work suggests, the little polka "La Simplicité". The work also was performed incidentally at Unger's Casino in Hernals, first on 26th July 1857 at an afternoon concert and then on the following evening at a garden party and ball for the feast of St Anne. Pepi composed feverishly during the summer of 1857. In the midst of the wide array of interesting new works, this polka did not receive any of the notice which the work rightly deserved. When that summer's musical crop appeared in print at the publishers Verlag Carl Haslinger, in October 1857, only one word was wasted on a description of the work: The graceful Simplicité French Polka by Josef Strauss. the Subtle charm of this work, which grabs the listener's attention with its powerful introduction, also went unnoticed.
