"Punch". The spirited Punsch-Polka is among the few works that have survived from the early years of "Pepi" term as an acting conductor of the Strauss orchestra, a post which he filled reluctantly. The work was announced for the first time in the Fremden-Blatt and Morgenpost newspapers on 1st July 1855. According to these accounts, it was on that date during the afternoon concert at Unger's Casino in Hernals that the polka was given it first performance. On that occasion, both brothers conducted the orchestra in turn.
