Typhoon Mangkhut swept Hong Kong on September 16, bringing heavy rains and strong rains as residents braced for what is the most severe storm in the city on record.

The Typhoon Signal 10 was raised just before 10 am this morning, with winds as high as 180 km/h. The red rainstorm warning was also issued.

Tens of thousands of passengers had their travel plans derailed as most airlines canceled flights for the day, a representative of the Airport Authority said.

Mangkhut made landfall in Philippines on Saturday, killing 16.
