Hundreds of Dogs and Cats Defy Mandatory Hurricane Florence Evacuation Order
The 157 dogs and 51 cats at the Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary will be staying put during the storm, Jennifer Middleton, executive director of the sanctuary, Some of the animals were sick, elderly or traumatized before they came to the sanctuary. Middleton and another staff member will stay at the 40-acre sanctuary throughout the storm.
The sanctuary, about 20 miles west of Charleston, is under a mandatory evacuation order.
