Refined petroleum products quota for North Korea has surpassed limit: State Dept. official
  • 6 years ago
Current trends indicate an import quota on refined petroleum products to North Korea -- mandated under a UN Security Council resolution -- has already been surpassed this year.
Voice of America said,.... an official at the U.S. State Department confirmed the details on Tuesday.... when asked about the issue.
The amount of refined oil Russia and China sold to North Korea through August this year.... was slightly under 19-thousand tons, according to what's been reported to the Security Council's Sanctions Committee on North Korea.
Although the amount is not even half the annual cap of 500-thousand barrels,.... Washington claims the actual amount has surpassed, due to illegal ship-to-ship transfers of goods to the North.
The official said,... the U.S. remains concerned on this illicit procurement of refined petroleum products.... and warned that UN member states should stop all further transfers of refined petroleum to the North.
