Two day shutdown begins in Kashmir and some parts of Jammu in support of Article 35 A. Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest last night to prevent him from leading any protests in support of Article 35-A, said a spokesman. He said the Mirwaiz was placed under detention at his Nigeen residence at 8pm. The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for a strike today and tomorrow to protest against the petitions challenging the Article 35-A. The legislation bars outsiders from buying immovable property in Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a bunch of petitions demanding scrapping of the state subject law tomorrow.
