White House Returns Flag To Full Staff Days Prior To Senator John McCain’s Interment

The White House flag was reportedly flying at full staff on Monday.

The White House flag was flying at full staff on Monday, reports MSNBC.   It had been lowered on Saturday following the announcement of Senator John McCain's passing, and, generally, the White House flag stays that way at the president's order until the honoree has been laid to rest.
CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller stated in a tweet: "Pres Trump did not issue proclamation on the death of @SenJohnMcCain, which usually calls for flags to remain at half-staff through the day of interment, which is Sunday at the @NavalAcademy."    An example of what that order could have looked like came via New York Governor Andrew Como.  He wrote on Twitter: "In honor of John McCain, one of our nation's finest public servants — I direct New York State's flags be flown at half staff. A small gesture for one of America's giants. Godspeed, Senator McCain."
The Washington Post notes the two men had a "bitter relationship" and "Trump nixed issuing a statement that praised the heroism and life of Sen. John McCain, telling senior aides he preferred to issue a tweet before posting one Saturday night that did not include any kind words for the late Arizona Republican."
