View from flight into Seattle shows city smothered in wildfire smoke

Neighboring wildfires burning in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia continued to prompt record low air quality ratings in Seattle on August 22.

This video, shared to Twitter by Hank Woon, shows the view outside his airplane window obscured by the heavy smoke. He was flying into the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport from Los Angeles in the evening.

The Washington city has battled poor air quality for the past two weeks. Authorities said yesterday that winds would likely push the smoke away from Seattle, but later announced the air quality alerts issued across Western Washington were getting extended to Thursday at noon.
