Ecologist Madhav Gadgil, founder of the Centre for Ecological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, has described the floods in Kerala as a man-made disaster; a reaction to the illegal excavations, stone quarrying done over a decade.


ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು(IISc) ನ ಪರಿಸರ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಪ್ರೊ. ಮಾಧವ್ ಗಾಡ್ಗೀಳ್ ಅವರು ಕೇರಳ ಹಾಗೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರವಾಹದ ನೈಜ ಕಾರಣ ಬಹಿರಂಗಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಿಂದೂಸ್ತಾನ್ ಟೈಮ್ಸ್ ಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಮಾಧವ್ ಗಾಡ್ಗೀಳ್, ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಪರಿಸರ ನಿಯಮಗಳು, ಕಲ್ಲು ಕ್ವಾರಿ, ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭೂ ಕಬಳಿಕೆ, ಅರಣ್ಯ ನಾಶ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಇಂದಿನ ಪ್ರವಾಹ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ಭೂಕುಸಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು.
