Turkish President Erdogan has slapped new tariffs on American products like cars, alcohol and coal. Turkish currency has nosedived lately. Erdogan feels it’s because of recent US sanctions. These tariffs came a day after Turkish President Erdogan called for a boycott of iPhones. The US has lately doubled steel and aluminium tariffs on Turkey. It was done to secure the release a 50-year-old American pastor, captive in Turkey. The pastor is being tried for espionage and terrorism. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House Press Secretary says ,”The tariffs from Turkey are certainly regrettable and a step in the wrong direction. The tariffs that the United States placed on Turkey were out of national security interests. Theirs are out of retaliation. I’m not going to get ahead of anything on what we may or may not do in an effort to respond.”
