Flights were delayed and passengers were left sitting in darkness following a power cut at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday, August 15.This video was captured by eyewitness Errington Thompson. It shows airline passengers sitting in a darkened terminal building after the power outage. In the clip, an airport announcer can be heard saying; “There is a fire emergency in the building, please evacuate”, but there were no indications that people had been asked to evacuate the terminal.At 9.50 pm local time, an airport spokesperson said: “We are aware of an airport wide power outage and investigating. Updates to follow.”At 10.35pm, the spokesperson tweeted photos of parts of the airport with lighting, saying: “Generator backup power is providing lighting to several areas of the terminal. Updates to follow.”At 11.13pm, the spokesperson said power had been restored at the airport, tweeting: “Power is restored to the airport and systems are coming back online.
