The Aquarius migrant rescue ship docked in Valleta, Malta, on Wednesday, August 15, after several EU countries agreed to take a share of the 141 people aboard the vessel. The ship was carrying migrants rescued from the Mediterranean on August 10.Medecins Sans Frontieres said it was “relieved” after the Aquarius rescue ship, which it operates in partnership with SOS MEDITERRANEE, was granted permission to dock in Malta after France, Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain agreed to share responsibility in a coordinated European response. The UN Refugee Agency also welcomed the decision, but said the standoff highlighted the need for a Mediterranean regional arrangement that provides clarity on where boats carrying rescued passengers can dock.In this footage, filmed by rescue organization Mission Lifeline, staff aboard the Mission Lifeline vessel at port in Valletta cheer and play songs such as “Aquarius” as the so-named vessel enters the harbor.
