On the occasion of India’s 72nd Independence Day, thousands of people rallied on the streets of Gujarat’s Surat. They all carried with them 1100-metre long tricolor flag which was made out of a 5000 m long piece of cloth. The procession was spread out on the street of Surat as people stretched out the flag by holding it from both the ends. The flag faced the sky. Making this tricolor flag was a laborious process which involved 200 people. It took 12 days for them to create this flag. People from all religions came together on the occasion of independence day. Together they unveiled the flag on the streets of Surat thus giving out the message that no religion is greater than the religion of nationalism.
