Two quakes shake Yunnan Province in China

Dozens of people have been injured when two separate 5.0 magnitude earthquakes shook southwest China's Yunnan Province in the early hours of Monday and Tuesday, according to local authorities.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the epicentre of the latest quake, with a depth of 6 km, was monitored in Sijie Township, Tonghai County, at 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

The previous earthquake hit the township at 1:44 a.m. on Monday.

Up to 70,000 residents were affected by the two quakes, according to officials.

More than 33,000 residents have been evacuated from the affected areas, local media reported.

The quakes also damaged more than 8,000 homes.
