The owner of BMW testifies before police, calls for searching BMW emails

Even an owner of a BMW car came forward to share his side of the story.
He claims the auto giant intentionally put off decision to issue a recall... and even called on the police to secure emails exchanged by BMW Korea and its HQ in Germany.

The owner of a BMW, whose car was the first one locally to catch fire, testified to police this afternoon.
He had filed a criminal complaint last Thursday against BMW, seeking an investigation and was summoned by the Seoul Metropolitan Police.
As he arrived, the man, surnamed Lee, claimed to reporters that the German carmaker intentionally hid the vehicle's defects.
He went on to say that he will ask the police to secure emails BMW Korea exchanged with its headquarters in Germany and with the manufacturer of the faulty engine part known as EGR, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
The man's lawyer said that he is well prepared with documents supporting his client's claim, and he added that as many as fifty other people will also lodge criminal complaints.
Meanwhile, the transport ministry says it is carrying out its own probe to determine if BMW did indeed intentionally hide vehicle defects and delay its decision to issue a recall,... which would be a violation of the law.
A total of 39 BMWs have caught fire in Korea so far this year.
Luckily, no one has been hurt.
