Some people observe the vrat for the entire month called as Shravan Shiva vrat, whereas some do it on Mondays and it is called the Shravan Somvar vrat. People who follow Shravan month have their own belief to observe the fast. Some fast for long life, happy married life or happiness of their children. सावन के तीसरे सोमवार पर भगवान शिव के तीन स्वरुपों की पूजा की जाती है। ज्योतिषों के अनुसार इस सृष्टि में तीन गुण हैं सत, रज और तम इन तीन गुणों को मिलाकर ही सृष्टि का निर्माण हुआ है। इस पर स्वयं भगवान शिव संचालन करते हैं। भगवान शिव केनीलकंठ, नटराज व मृत्युंजय इन तीन स्वरुपों की विशेष आराधना करना चाहिए। शिवजी अपने इन्हीं स्वरुपों के जरिए पूर्ण सृष्टि का भरण-पोषण करते हैं। इसलिए शिव भक्तों के लिए ये सोमवार विशेष लाभकारी माना गया है।
