S. Korean gov't seeks to ban use of plastic bags at supermarkets
  • 6 years ago
In the coming days, the Ministry of Environment will submit a law revision aimed at reducing the amount of plastic bags used by supermarkets and bakeries in Korea.
The proposed amendment to the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources act will ban supermarkets from using plastic bags and bakeries from putting baked goods in plastic bags for free.
The measure is in line with President Moon Jae-in's promotion of environment-friendly policies,... which began after local recycling companies refused to collect plastic recyclables in April as China began preventing imports of recycled materials.
