폭염에 배추•무 가격 '고공행진'…과일값도 올라

The record breaking heat wave in Korea is driving up the prices of agricultural products.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on Wednesday, the wholesale price of produce was 6-point-5 percent higher than average as of late July.
The ministry said the sizzling weather conditions and lack of rain have damaged important crops of napa cabbage and radish.
The wholesale price of napa cabbage surpassed 3,500 won, or about 3 U.S. dollars per head last month, representing a 50-percent hike from the usual rate.
The price of radish also rose to more than 1 dollar and 80 cents…which is 66-percent higher than the average.
The prices are expected to remain high for the time being as the extreme hot conditions are forecast to last for at a least a month longer.
