Seoul's vice unification minister in N. Korea to check family reunion venue
  • 6 years ago
South Korea's vice minister of unification, Chun Hae-sung, is heading north of the border today... to visit Mount Kumgang... where reunions will be held this month for families separated by the Korean War.
The vice minister will be checking progress on the renovations underway at the reunion venue.
Mount Kumgang used to be a destination for tourists from South Korea until one of them was shot dead ten years ago.
The North wants the tours to resume and yesterday urged Seoul to work towards that.
But the unification ministry says Chun's visit has nothing to do with tourism.
Meanwhile, the two Koreas are deciding which of their citizens will attend the family reunions.
They're scheduled to exchange the final lists this Saturday.
