Nicaraguans in Managua March in Support of Catholic Church
  • 6 years ago
Thousands of people marched in Managua on July 28 in support of the Conferencia Episcopal de Nicaragua (CEN), or Nicaraguan Episcopal Conference, and in protest of the violence they say is perpetuated by President Daniel Ortega and the Sandinistas. The CEN represents the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, a predominantly Catholic country, and has recently been at odds with Ortega and his supporters, who accuse churches of harboring and providing aid to “terrorist” anti-government protesters. These videos show people marching with Nicaraguan flags and signs thanking the bishops for standing with the community.
