HYPEBEAST Spaces: Oakley In Residence: Los Angeles

Los Angeles has deep roots in skateboarding, with the Californian metropolis widely considered the international mecca of skating. Looking to celebrate this rich, illustrious history, Oakley took to the world-famous Melrose Avenue to open up the first of its Oakley In Residence pop-up spaces. Described by the brand as “part creative space, part skateboarding destination,” Oakley In Residence: Los Angeles features a workshop within its walls, where this week Crailtap’s Art Dump -- led by Andy Jenkins -- covered the walls in one-off illustrations that highlight eight seminal L.A. skate spots. At the back, the spots are physically reiterated for public use, where skaters can hang out and shred with friends and local Oakley team riders.
Beginning on May 1, legendary photographer Atiba Jefferson will host an exclusive mini-exhibition showcasing his extensive canon of works based in Los Angeles over the past 20 years. Those in the know understand the magnitude of Jefferson’s documentation of the city’s skate scene, with the artist having captured the careers of today’s supernovas -- Eric Koston, Paul Rodriguez and Andrew Reynolds to name a few -- while also shining a light on the next generation. We were treated to an inside look at the Oakley In Residence space for our latest edition of HYPEBEAST Spaces, capturing the inner workings of this special area for those not able to make it in-person.
