Hundreds of taxi drivers in Barcelona and Madrid have said that they intend to carry on their industrial action over private driver services such as Uber.

Last week protests were held across the country with some cases of violence reported. Taxi drivers staged stoppages on some major routes in Barcelona, including the city centre and El Prat airport.

At the weekend, taxi drivers in Madrid announced a “spontaneous” and indefinite strike, calling for restrictions on the number of licenses granted to private operators.

Other wildcat strikes have been reported in locations across the country.
