More students in U.S. studying Korean, spike partly attributed to K-Pop

More and more people around the world are choosing to study the Korean language.... and it appears the global popularity of K-Pop can be thanked for that.
The Modern Language Association says.... the number of Korean classes at American universities increased by 14 percent between 2013 and 2016.
This,.... despite an overall decline in foreign language enrollment in the U.S.
The association says,... the rising interest in learning Korean comes from a desire to understand the lyrics of K-Pop hits.
In the late 1990s, records show just over 1-hundred-50 people studying Korean in American colleges.
But based on the latest statistics,... that figure now stands at roughly 14-thousand.
Studying Korean is also becoming increasingly popular in Canada, Malaysia and Thailand... thanks to students' love for K-pop.
