Moon Jae-in's Berlin Declaration

On July 6th, 2017, President Moon Jae-in laid out is vision towards peace on the Korean peninsula. It became the backbone of his administration's policy towards North Korea, promoting peace, cooperation and dialogue, as well as strong calls for the regime to denuclearize. Let's take a quick look at back what some of what was said during that speech.


"The biggest challenge that the Korean Peninsula is facing is the North Korean nuclear issue.

"I clearly state the following: We do not wish for North Korea's collapse, and will not work towards any kind of unification through absorption. Neither will we pursue an artificial unification."

"Economic cooperation where the South and the North prosper together is an important foundation of establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula. I have planned a 'new economic map for the Korean Peninsula.'

"Through a comprehensive approach on the North Korean nuclear issue and establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, my administration will pursue the conclusion of a peace treaty along with complete denuclearization."

"I am ready to meet with Chairman Kim Jong-un of North Korea at any time and at any place, if the right conditions are met and if such metting will provide an opportunity to transform the tension and confrontation on the Korean Peninsula."
