Rand Paul has filed a lawsuit against his neighbor in the assault case.

Senator Rand Paul has filed a civil lawsuit against his neighbor, Rene Boucher, who tackled Paul while he was mowing his lawn in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The New York Times reports, Paul is "seeking damages to compensate for 'physical pain and mental suffering.'"
The incident occurred in November of last year, when according to the complaint, "Boucher ran from his property, trespassing onto Plaintiff's property, and forcibly tackled, attacked and physically assaulted and battered Plaintiff Paul from behind without warning."

Boucher has claimed that a dispute over landscaping was behind the attack.

According to Politico, "Boucher previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress, a federal charge, and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and sentenced to 30 days in jail."
The senator is said to have experienced multiple rib fractures and recurrent pneumonia as a result of the assault.
Paul's attorney Thomas Kerrick said in a statement, "The first phase of this matter, the criminal action, resulted in Dr. Boucher pleading guilty to felony assault. This next phase, the civil action, will determine the financial responsibility owed to the victim."
