Violence Flares In Southwest Syria As Warplanes Launch Airstrikes On Rebel-Held Areas

According to a report by Reuters, a rebel commander warned that Syrian government forces and their Iran-backed allies would face "volcanoes of fire" if they launch a threatened offensive in the opposition-held southwest. Assad has pledged to take-back opposition-held areas near the borders of Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. On Tuesday, Reuters reports that violence flared up in several parts of the southwest, with government warplanes launching airstrikes near a rebel-held village. The conflict in the southwest has reportedly been complicated by the role of Iran-backed forces and Israel's demands for them to be kept away from the occupied Golan Heights area and, more broadly, to be removed from Syria entirely.
