Who is Mick Mulvaney? Narrated by Elizabeth Warren

Who is Mick Mulvaney? Apparently, he’s a self-diagnosed “right-wing nut job” who Trump has appointed as both the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

He became recently famous for critiquing the Meals on Wheels program that “sounds great but doesn’t work.” He’s technically in charge of protecting citizens from getting ripped off by Wall Street, but he thinks the branch “shouldn’t exist in the first place.”

He technically got his start in politics as an envelope stuffer for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. After a brief stint in law, he joined his family’s home building a real estate business.

In 2006, he won an open seat in South Carolina’s State House, ten years later, he was voted into the state Senate, and eventually the House of Representatives. He played a part in creating the Freedom Caucus, the far-right, tea party Republicans who lent a hand in shutting down the government in 2013.

So naturally he came to mind when Trump needed someone to manage the budget. In his first proposal, Mulvaney called for tens of billions of dollars in cuts to education, environmental agencies, medical research and housing — but did call for more tax dollars for that border wall Mexico was supposed to pay for. He also looks like he’ll weaken regulations on Wall Street rather than strengthening them.
