Netflix Renews '13 Reasons Why' for Season 3 The streaming service released a teaser trailer to announce that the show will return in 2019. The controversial teen drama focuses on a high school student's suicide after she was sexually assaulted, bullied, and struggled with depression. Since Netflix premiered '13 Reasons Why' last year, the show has been criticized for glorifying suicide and its graphic depiction of gun-violence and sodomy. The Parents Television Council has asked Netflix to pull the series after calling it a "ticking time bomb to teens and children." "We would have liked to have 13 reasons for hope and redemption following the graphic suicide of the lead female teen character, but rather than providing a path forward, the season only provides cause for despondency,” Executive producer Mandy Teefey addressed the backlash to ET by saying the show is meant to "reflect reality" and be "a conversation starter." It has not yet been confirmed which cast members will return for Season 3 but Teefey hints that the actress who played the suicide victim will not be returning.
